Various, different, and sometimes contradictory images have been represented from the Iranian society in different periods since its emergence so far. Like all evolving societies, the Iranian society has experienced changes in recent decades from different social, cultural, and economic aspects. A social variable used for understanding the contemporary changes in Iran is the notion of lifestyle. In this paper, we attempted to investigate the lifestyle represented in the radio channels of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting first by utilizing the representation theory and then by employing Bourdieu’s explanation scheme in regard to lifestyle. To achieve the above purpose, we developed an inverse questionnaire after sampling from among the programs produced in Tehran’s radio channel during three months in 2018 using the method of content analysis and after defining the categories and indicators, and collected data by listening to the relevant extracted files. To investigate the produced radio programs, we analyzed different topics and dialogues.
The obtained results demonstrated that among the aspects of lifestyle, attitudes had been represented most on Tehran’s radio channel. The following aspects include cultural consumption, leisure, and priority of ethical values, respectively. Next, the findings of the research were compared to the previous findings by Armaki and Shalchi in their paper on investigation of coffee shop youth lifestyle.
